Aquatic Program Director

Shelly Kochorek

Shelly is the aquatic program director for the Columbia Valley Otters. She brings to the club many years of experience planning and executing programming for aquatic environments. Shelly has been with the club for 7 years. She overseas scheduling, registration and leadership course planning. Shelly is an active Red Cross and Lifesaving Society Instructor trainer. She also holds a degree in Education, specializing in physical and outdoor education.



Head Coach

Karen Fahrni

Coach Karen is in her eighth year as head coach of the Otters and
 is an NCCP level 2 certified coach. She began her competitive swim career in Radium Hot Springs at the age of 10 with the former Radium Silver Fins. As a teenager, Karen moved to Calgary to swim at the national level. Karen competed on select teams that travelled across Canada and into the USA. As a dual Swiss-Canadian citizen Coach Karen also competed internationally at Swiss Nationals. After swimming one year with the University of Calgary Dinos, Karen retired from swimming due to a back injury. She continued on in the sport by coaching the University of Calgary Swim Club during the school year and volunteering with the Radium Silver Fins. She spent four years running and teaching the Red Cross swim lesson program for the swim club out of the Radium pools. When not coaching, Karen can is treating patients in her Chiropractic Clinic.

Carson Tomalty


Coach Carson is currently away attending Queens University and plans on coming back in the spring to help coach the Otters. Carson joined the Columbia Valley Otters Swim Club 6 years ago and currently swims on a team in Kingston, Ontario. Carson is certified NCCP Level 1 Swim Coach. A recent lifeguard training graduate, he spent his summer teaching swimming lessons for the Otters and lifeguarding at Radium. Coach Carson is always looking to improve his teaching skills as well as his own swimming strokes.

Madeleine Wrazej


Coach Madeleine is currently away attending the University of Victoria. Madeleine has spent several years swimming on and off with the former Silver Fins and Otters. Madeleine completed her Lifeguarding awards and Water Safety Instructor course and spent her summer teaching Red Cross Swim Lessons for the Otters Swim Club. Madeleine is also a
 certified NCCP Level 1 Swim Coach who coaches during the school year with  Pacific Coast Swimming in Victoria, BC.

Tasha Bjorgan


Coach Tasha is a level 1 NCCP certified swim coach who works with our young Otter pups program. Tasha enjoys sharing her love of swimming with her swimmers. Tasha has been swimming with the Otters for 5 years and is also our lane swim lifeguard. Tasha is also involved with the local cadet group. 




Lesson Instructor

Isabella Hul

Coach Bella is in her 4th year of working with the Otters. She is a provincial level swimmer in Otters 4 and her favourite stroke is breaststroke. She is a grade 11 student at DTSS. When Bella isn't coaching the Otter Pup groups on Monday she is playing rep soccer or skiing at Panorama.  Bella also helps teach our Red Cross swim lesson program during the summer months. 



Assistant Coach

Grace Fitzsimmons


Coach Grace is in her 6th year of working with the Otters. She has spent many years swimming with the swim club in Radium. She currently attends DTSS in grade 12 and swims in Otters 4. Grace is NCCP Level 1 Swim Coach certified. When not at the pool Grace is coaching gymnastics, or working with horses.




Lesson Instructor

Taylor Lightfoot


Coach Taylor is in her 3rd year of working with the Otters. She spends most of her extra time at the swimming pool training 3-4 times a week and does CrossFit for dryland training.. She swims in Otter's 4 and is working towards her provincial times. When not at the pool Taylor is spending time with her family and friends.
